Why A Community Midwife?
"We are the only species of mammal that doubts our ability to give birth. It's profitable to scare women about birth. But let's stop it. I tell women: Your body is not a lemon."
- Ina May Gaskin
You have a lot of options when it comes to caring for your body. No choice you make is more important than the person or team that you choose to accompany you on this journey. Why would you choose a Community Midwife?
Community Midwives are more likely to try to manage anything you’re experiencing from a natural, holistic angle. If your ankles are swelling at the end of the day, how about an epsom salt soak? If you’re having heartburn, have you tried taking papaya enzyme? If you’re having hot flashes, have you tried taking Evening Primrose oil? Irregular cycles? Have you tried vaginal steaming or herbs?
Community Midwives are not “a new trend” or “the latest thing”. We are the old school thing. Individualized, comprehensive care is the tradition of healers and midwives from all of human history. Get the care you deserve by choosing a community midwife.
Community Midwives are midwives that have spent an extended amount of time training and learning about pregnant and non-pregnant bodies, babies, feeding babies, reproductive healthcare and birth. We are extensively trained in what is normal and to be expected. We are care providers who approach your care by meeting you where you are and not asking you to change your entire lifestyle. If all you are able to stomach in the first trimester is double cheeseburgers, a midwife is likely to ask if you can add lettuce and tomato to your burger. We acknowledge that life has its difficult points and we’re not asking your to stand on your head to make it more palatable, but to make small changes that are able to affect your health and your experience in your body, your hormones, your relationship, your pregnancy, or your post-partum.
If you have female hormones, we have you covered.
